Answer:There are few possible way to do this, One is start the 14 min & 9 min hourglass simultaneously. Once the 9 min glass is over start it again. once 14 min glass is over start the 12 min glass. Once the 9 min glass is over, start the job and do it till 12 min glass is over which is 8 mins. For the another one pls check the answer by Lakshmi. There are still some more also. You may try and leave it here...

ReplyDeletesorry for the unclear posting, I have amended it now. They are mins that can be measured with those hourglasses
ReplyDeletestart the 14 min & 9 min hourglass simultaneously. Once the 9 min glass is over start it again. once 14 min glass is over start the 12 min glass. Once the 9 min glass is over, start the job and do it till 12 min glass is over which is 8 mins.
ReplyDeleteStart the 14 and 9 min clocks at the same time. Once the 9 min clock is finished, flip both the 14 min and 9 min clocks. So, you got 5 min to finish the 14 min clock. When the 5 min is over, flip the 9 min clock again. It had run for 5 already, so on flipping you get 4 min now to finish it.By then flip the 12 min clock at the same time. So when the 9 min clock is done, meaning 4 min have passed, you are left with 8 min to finish the 12 min clock. Now flip the 12 min clock and do the job you wanted to measure.
ReplyDeleteAnonymously our friend got the answer right, Congrates...Lakshmi you too got the same answer in a different manner. Great work. Wah...Good Thinking man...Applauds
